Lake Arthur High School teacher Vicki Broussard recently received the 2009-2010 Jeff Davis Arts Council Zigler Art-in-Education Mini Grant for the project titled,"Making Wire Screen Mardi Gras Masks." This project was done with the 8th grade Louisiana History students. Guest speaker, Mrs. Jackie Miller, came to speak to the students about the history of the rural Mardi Gras. She has been recognized as a master craftswoman in Louisiana. Her masks have been approved by the Louisiana State Folklife Association as a traditional Louisiana craft. Each student then designed their own wire screen masks to be worn to the Bayou Bash Festival held at Lake Arthur High School at the end of April.
