Tigers rip apart Iota 74-51, Lady Tigers fall to Lady Bulldogs 53-37

The Lake Arthur High School Tigers and Lady Tigers entertained the Iota Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs in District 5-2A play on Tuesday, February 2, 2010 in the Wilbert C. “Nooky” Moore Gym, with the Tigers nabbing a 74-51 victory and the Lady Tigers falling to the powerful Lady Bulldogs by a final of 53-37.

The Lady Tigers, who gave the Iota Ladies all they could ask for a couple of weeks ago in Iota before falling short, fell behind 14-6 after one period and trailed 30-15 after two stanzas Tuesday evening.

Lake Arthur outscored the Lady Bulldogs 13-10 in the third quarter to trail by 40-28 entering the final frame.
But Iota’s Ladies would prove to be superior once again, taking the last eight minutes 13-9 to win by the final margin of 53-37.

Carly Hay and Anna Shaw led Lake Arthur in scoring with 14 and 11 points respectively, while Devyn Trahan tossed in four. Sage Weekley and Elizabeth Guidry each popped in three tallies, while Kadie Bonin added the final two markers for the home team.

Iota was led by Kaitlyn Regan with 14, while Tori Stroderd and Adaile Wriborg each threw in nine tallies. Allison Baggett accounted for seven points for the Lady Dogs.

Lake Arthur clicked on 13 field goals, a pair of threes, and was nine of 15 from the free throw line.

Iota nailed 20 field goals, seven threes, and was six of 11 from the charity stripe.

With the loss, Lake Arthur fell to 12-11 overall and 2-7 in league play, while Iota improved to 22-12 and 9-1 in the district standings.

In the second game of the evening, the Lake Arthur Tigers gained a measure of revenge for the home crowd, pulling away late for a convincing 74-51 win.

The Tigers trailed 20-19 after a fast and furious first frame, but used a 22-18 second quarter surge to move ahead of the Bulldogs by a score of 40-38 at the half.

Lake Arthur broke the game open in the third period, using a 12-5 edge to build what turned out to be an insurmountable 52-43 lead before the start of the fourth period.

Then, in the final frame, the Tigers wore down the visitors with a 22-18 eight minute spurt to win going away by a margin of 74-51.

Darius Mitchell and Jacob Martin each pumped in 19 tallies for the Tigers, while D’Angelo Thompson and Nick Klein also notched double digits with 12 and 11 points respectively. Auldon Robinson and Colby Lavergne added seven and six points to close out the Tiger offensive attack.

Johnny Guidry nabbed game high honors with 20 points, while teammates Brennon Miller and Tyler LeBlanc popped in 13 and 10 for the Bulldogs.

Lake Arthur clicked on 21 field goals, nine threes, and was a gaudy nine of 10 from the free throw line.
Iota managed 17 field goals, a pair of threes, and was 11 of 20 from the charity stripe.

With the win, the Tigers leveled their season record at 11-11 and improved their league mark to 5-2, while Iota fell to 9-17 and 1-8 in the league standings.
