Vikings end Abbeville's dream 62-48
Wildcats finish season at 27-6
LAFAYETTE -- Vidalia went into the fourth quarter with a 44-40 lead over the Abbeville Wildcats and used an 8-0 run to start the final frame en route to a win in the Class 3A semifinals 62-48.
The loss ends Abbeville’s season at 27-6.
Abbeville went into halftime of their Class 3A semifinal contest with the No. 1 Vikings tied at 26-26.
After a basket from Gary Stewart put Vidalia up 26-23 with 2:46 left in the half, Abbeville’s Dion Perry hit three free throws to send the two teams into the locker room tied at 26-26.
The Wildcats and Vikings ended the first quarter in the same fashion, knotted at 14-14. The Vikings held a 14-11 lead with 1:00 remaining in the first eight minutes.
Abbeville’s Ja’Quaylon Davenport rebounded a Vidalia miss and hit Dajuan Smith with an outlet pass. Smith raced to the basket and hit a layup as he was fouled. Smith connected on the foul shot for the three-point play to end the first quarter with a tie.
