Stepmom arrested when 9-year-old is found abused
Severely malnourished weighing 38 pounds, bruised and burned
LAKE CHARLES - According to Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s office officials, the department received a complaint on February 19 from a woman living in Moss Bluff about the welfare of a 9-year-old child.
A Calcasieu deputy questioned the complainant about her concern and this is when she explained that the child was very thin and possibly being held against his will in his bedroom. She told the deputy that the child resided with his father and stepmother in Lake Charles.
Eunice woman killed in vehicle roll-over

An unrestrained Eunice woman was killed when her vehicle rolled over in a Jeff Davis Parish accident early today.
Ninety Lake Arthur students make 4.0 averages
171 others included on fourth Six Weeks Honor Roll
A total of 90 Lake Arthur students attained perfect 4.0 averages, while 171 others made the Honor Roll List for the fourth six weeks grading period.

Bank of Commerce and Trust Company in Mermentau robbed at gunpoint
Suspects thought to be headed toward Jennings
According to reports from the Acadia Parish Sheriff Department, The Bank of Commerce and Trust Company, located on 7th Street in Mermentau, was robbed at gunpoint.
Authorities are currently searching for two black male suspects last seen headed towards Jennings. The suspects are believed to be riding on a grey and yellow dirt bike.

Second "Student of the Year" Award earned by dedicated student

One might think that winning the same award for the second time might tend to lose some of its luster.
But for Cassidy Paige Hebert, the 13-year-old daughter of Adrienne Abshire Hanks and Brian Joseph Hebert, nothing could be further from the truth.
Cassidy has once again been crowned “Student of the Year” for her outstanding academic achievements, this time for Lake Arthur Jr. High School. Three short years ago, she earned “Student of the Year” at Lake Arthur Elementary School for attaining similar academic awards.
