Obituaries

Funeral services were held Monday, March 8, 2010, at a 1:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Peter Catholic Church in Gueydan for Harriet Ann Cormier LeMaire, 69. Mrs. Lemaire peacefully made her flight to Heaven on March 6, 2010 surrounded by her family, after a long, courageous battle with two types of cancer. Interment was in the Gueydan Cemetery.

Lake Arthur: A mass of Christian burial for Joseph "Joe" Elgie Vincent, 81, will be held at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Lake Arthur, La. on Friday, March 12, 2010 @ 1:00 PM with Father Clyde Thomas officiating. Mr. Vincent was called to his Heavenly Father Tuesday, March 9, 2010 at his home while surrounded by his beloved family.

Jennings: Funeral services for Marie Isabell Guidry Hall, 93, will be held at Matthews & Son Funeral Home in Jennings, La on Friday, March 12, 2010 @ 10:30 AM with Msgr. Ronald Groth officiating. Mrs. Hall was called to her Heavenly Father Monday evening from Camelot Place Nursing Home.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, March 11th from 3:00 PM until 9:00 PM and will resume on Friday, March 12th at 8:00 AM until the time of her services.

CLINTON -- Arrangements are pending for Charles Shropshire, the first elected black district attorney in Louisiana. He died Sunday at age 57.

Gueydan: Funeral services for Rufford Joseph Cormier, Jr., 64, were held at Matthews & Son Funeral Home in Gueydan, La. on Thursday, March 4, 2010 at 1:30 p.m. with Rev. Carroll Dunn officiating. Mr. Cormier was called to his Heavenly Father from his home in Jennings early Tuesday morning while surrounded by his beloved family. Visitation was held at the funeral home beginning on Wednesday, March 3rd from 2:30 p.m. until the time of his services on Thursday. Mr. Cornier was laid to rest in the Gueydan Cemetery.

LAKE ARTHUR--Funeral services for Mr. Joseph D. Feverjean , 84, will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, March 5, 2010 in Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church with Rev. Clyde Thomas officiating.

Burial will be in St. Anthony Cemetery under the direction of Miguez Funeral Home of Lake Arthur.

Funeral home visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. today, Thursday until time of services Friday.

A rosary led by the Catholic Daughters will be recited at 7:00 p.m., today, Thursday in the funeral home chapel.

Mr. Feverjean died at 9:00 a.m., Wednesday, March 3, 2010 at his residence.
