Gueydan: Funeral services for Rufford Joseph Cormier, Jr., 64, were held at Matthews & Son Funeral Home in Gueydan, La. on Thursday, March 4, 2010 at 1:30 p.m. with Rev. Carroll Dunn officiating. Mr. Cormier was called to his Heavenly Father from his home in Jennings early Tuesday morning while surrounded by his beloved family. Visitation was held at the funeral home beginning on Wednesday, March 3rd from 2:30 p.m. until the time of his services on Thursday. Mr. Cornier was laid to rest in the Gueydan Cemetery.
Rufford Joseph was born in Gueydan, La. to the late Rufford and Hazel Touchet Cormier. He was a retired driller. He was an outdoorsman and loved to hunt and shrimp. Rufford enjoyed spending time with his friends and family. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Leaving behind to cherish his memories is his beloved wife of 44 years and best friend, Beverly Davis Cormier of Jennings; three children, Gregory (Vanessa) Cormier, Sr., Edward Allen Cormier, and Stephanie Cormier all of Jennings; five sisters, Deloris Trahan of Jennings, Virginia Richard, Thelma Richard, Alina Garcia, and Brenda Monceaux all of Crowley; seven beautiful grandchildren, Heather, Gregory Jr., and Beverly Ann Cormier, Lauren Pousson, Michael and D.J. Hubbard, and Devin Todd; and two great grandchildren, Eva Breaux and Madison Pousson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Rufford and Hazel Touchet Cormier; a brother, Jerry Cormier; and a sister, Sarah Richard.
Carrying Mr. Cormier to his eternal resting place was Gregory Cormier Jr., DJ Hubbard, Michael Hubbard, Travis Pousson, Charles Breaux, and Kip Overley, Honorary pallbearers will include Trevor and Kaleb LaDelle.
